The phone has a battery saver mode of sorts that's on by default, which cuts back the location and network access of background apps, but we didn't notice any adverse effects, such as apps not updating in the background, etc., so we decided to leave it on. Impressive specifications on the Samsung Galaxy S21 FE 5G (Snapdragon), such as the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 5G chipset, a 4500 mAh battery and wireless charging, could not help the device overcome an overall poor performance. The screen glass is rather reflective and while you will be able to see what's happening on the screen under bright sunlight, you'll need the maximum brightness and all the colors will be washed out. However at this setting the screen takes a 10% hit in the maximum brightness output. We managed to improve the color rendering by shifting the screen setting to a warmer preset (there is an option for changing the color temperature) and by doing so we got a more accurate color rendering with an Avg DeltaE of 5.2 and a Max DeltaE of 9.1. The color rendering accuracy is passable as well with an average deviation of DeltaE 6.8 and max deviation DeltaE 13. The screen's contrast ratio is average at 953:1. It has about the same maximum brightness. ![]() The display on the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 seems to be identical with the one on the Redmi Note 2. Once you use the 'Add folder' function, or import from an iOS device's Camera Roll, that folder becomes a 'watch' folder add more photos to the folder and they're automatically imported into Mylio, which is huge for both pros and hobbyists (imagine having an export preset in Lightroom that sends processed images to a watch folder, or dragging email attachments into a watch folder on your desktop). If your Lightroom catalog lives in a parent folder containing subfolders of photos, it's best to use the 'Add folder' function instead of 'Import from Lightroom.' That way, Mylio references the same location that Lightroom uses, enabling you to pass images to and fro. Importing from Lightroom takes a little forethought. It took a couple of hours to copy 26,000-plus photos, and my Mac crashed due to memory depletion, though after restarting and launching Mylio, the import picked back up and finished without a hitch. In my testing, importing from iPhoto takes longer. Importing photos from folders on your hard drive is fast and you can choose to add, copy, or move them adding photos doesn't duplicate them and keeps your existing hierarchical structure intact (choosing copy or move places them in Mylio's own directory). Once Mylio is installed on your Mac, you can import photos from your hard drives, CDs or DVDs, iOS devices, Adobe Photoshop Lightroom, Facebook (including photos taken by others that you're tagged in), your Instagram album on Facebook, Flickr, and iPhoto (full Instagram support is forthcoming). Sound too good to be true? Let's find out! Importing and syncing You can edit, share, and export photos using Mylio, too. Mylio also syncs your photos among the desktop, iOS, removable, and remote devices you tell it about, so your entire collection is always backed up and accessible in multiple places. Unless you're a pro photographer, it's hard to force yourself into good habits around renaming, keywording, organizational, and most importantly backup. ![]() Overall, it's a great album, possibly the best album of the year, but it's still not as solid as "Revolutions Per Minute." Tim's best cover was The Killing Tree's version of "Jesus Christ Pose." Sick Of It All isn't even that good of a band. "Built to Last" 7/10: For those fans like me who have to collect every recording, this is a cover of Sick Of It All's "Built to Last" available on the import version. I was wondering why the album had an explicit language warning. "Survive" 10+/10: Just like with "Rumors of My Demise Have Been Greatly Exaggerated," they close with their best track. "The Good Left Undone" 9/10: This song is missing something lyrically, and I can't quite put my finger on it. "Roadside" 5/10: The "Swing Life Away" / "Everchanging" track. "Behind Closed Doors" 10/10: This is what I expect from Rise Against. "Worth Dying For" 7/10: It starts good, and then it just deteriorates. It sounds like somebody reading stream of consciousness poetry with a chorus thrown in. "The Approaching Curve" 5/10: Call this experimental if you must. "Drones" 8/10: The chorus is kind of disappointing. "Prayer of the Refugee" 10/10: A few simple chords get real addictive. It's a good change of pace after "Bricks." "Under the Knife" 9/10: A slightly calmer song. "Bricks" 10/10: They can still play pure punk. "Ready to Fall" 10+/10: From the first chord, you know this song is going to be amazing. "Injection" 9/10: Possibly the follow-up to "Rumors of My Demise Have Been Greatly Exaggerated," but not as good as the original. "Chamber the Cartridge" 10/10: A very good opener, but still not as good as "Black Masks & Gasoline." I had very high expectations for this album, and they were almost met. My friends were talking about the mosh pit for months. Nobody knew who they were and they stole the show. When they opened for the Mad Caddies, I was right in front of Tim's microphone and the stage was a 6 inch raised platform. They are unmatched in their intensity and energy. I've seen them half a dozen times since, and I consider it a shame I haven't seen them more. I first saw them back in 2003 opening for the Mad Caddies and Fat Wreck Chords (ska phase) when they were touring for RPM. IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN THEM LIVE.and you're a fan, then you HAVE TO. I hate relegating them to 'fodder' category but you know it's a good album when the worst songs are still awesome. The rest of the songs like Injection and Ready to Fall fall somewhere in the middle, combining the catchy lyrics, quick guitar riffs, and emotional charge that you've come to expect from such an awesome band. Songs like Roadside and the Approaching Curve (this song grows on you hard - one of the least popular songs on Amazon but IMO one of the best on the album) show you their slower, more melodic side. Let a little of that teenage angst out, punch a pillow, whatever. If you want fast riffs, catchy lyrics, and anthem-like-headbanging choruses, songs like Prayer of the Refugee, the Good Left Undone (my favorite song of theirs period) and Behind Closed Doors are for you. I view this is the key album in their transition to the mainstream. It keeps the 'rawness' and emotion in their music, while giving it a polish and tightness not found on previous albums. God, another great album from Rise Against. All of these things demonstrate that Rise Against is drawing from a broader palette than many of its counterparts, one of the reasons it will (indeed, already has) rise above the masses of sound-alike acts vying for the attention of the MySpace generation. Cut from the same savvy cloth as Bad Religion and Black Flag, Rise Against rocks hard during the martial opus opener, "Chamber The Cartridge," the melodic "Injection," which asks us to imagine that Iron Maiden came from sunny California and not some dreary part of London, and "Ready To Fall," which may be one of the greatest anthems of adolescent estrangement since The Who's "Baba O'Riley." The band also isn't afraid of a good hook and scintillating melody ("Under The Knife"), exploring complex emotions ("Roadside"), or unleashing a bit of old-school breakneck fury sans apology ("Brick"). Rise Against returns with a rollicking wallop of an album that further establishes the Chicago-based outfit as one of the great bright hopes for the future of alienation rock. Features the hit single "Ready to Fall." Chicago's Rise Against's 4th album, THE SUFFERER & THE WITNESS, continues to build upon their solid punk foundation, it is a striking collection, with Rise Against using elements from spoken word, expanded balladry, and simply plodding forward with a faster, harder, louder ethic. ![]() ![]() ![]() Here memories and vistas from the real world mix with the things that people hold dear. Led by the enigmatic maestro named Balan, the stars of the show Emma and Leo will use special abilities from a multitude of characterful costumes as they adventure in the bizarre and imaginary land of Wonderworld. It may look pretty (when it's framerate isn't chugging), but there simply isn't enough good content here to justify your time or money, and this is doubly true when you take into account that this is a full-priced retail release.Welcome to a wonderous all-action show, the likes of which has never been seen before!īALAN WONDERWORLD is a wondrous action platformer game themed around the Balan Theatre. Monotonous level design, awful performance, and shallow gameplay combine to make for an experience that is simply not fun to play. What were they thinking? We're not going to mince words here, Balan Wonderworld is a waste of your time. There's no reason for a limitation like this to exist and it only makes an already frustrating game that much more baffling. The result? Wearing an attack-focused suit literally means you can't jump anymore. All the face buttons and both the triggers do the exact same thing, which for most suits is some version of a jump - in some cases, it might be a basic attack instead, but it can't be both. Mitch Vogel, Nintendo Life: "There's nothing wrong with setting up different hurdles in levels for each suit's abilities, but Balan Wonderworld fails to go beyond scratching the surface with the creativity of these obstacles, a creative failure that extends to the control scheme limited by one button. Wonder what in the world happened with the Switch version. Wonder how a very well known publisher could stomach having it in their library. Wonder how a game could so masterfully miss literally every opportunity to treat its players with a modicum of respect. The kind of wonder that makes you wonder. Balan Wonderworld will leave you with a sense of wonder. The more I played the more I began to think the latter was the case. At times you'll catch a glimpse of what seems remarkably close to a vision for the game, yet equally common is the nagging feeling you've fallen victim to a scam. It's backed by the monolithic Square Enix and yet the Switch version in particular feels like a poorly funded indie title that is overstretching a lone developer. It clearly has modern influences-most obviously Super Mario Odyssey in its ability swapping mechanics-and yet it either wildly misunderstands them or simply takes glee in ignoring key elements. John Rairdin, NintendoWorldReport: "After many hours, Balan Wonderworld remains a mystery to me. RELATED: Super Mario 3D All-Stars: The BEST Way to Play These Games Now That Mario Is Dead Because while much of this title pulls at the parts of the brain that control nostalgia, some elements are stark reminders of just how far the medium has come." It feels like Yuji Naka and his team at Balan Company have ignored the past 25 years of progress made in game development. ![]() But Balan Wonderworld doesn't just feel old. Retro games are as big now as they've ever been, and we're still getting Kickstarters for "spiritual successors" to those titles we deeply adored as kids. ![]() And hey, there is nothing wrong with feeling a bit old. If you were to tell me Balan Wonderworld was actually an HD remake of some 1997 Sega Saturn title, I'd probably believe you because from top to bottom, this feels like something I played back when I was 13 years old. It's an artifact of the mid to late '90s, calling back to the golden era of the mascot platformer, a brief period when developers blessed the world with weird and experimental platform games like Bug or Croc: Legend of the Gobbos. This is a new game that feels very, very old. From its misguided one-button control scheme, to its haphazard transforming costume mechanic and the levels that use them, to the half-hearted Chao Garden-like hub world between them, it gets a lot wrong – and very little of what it gets right helps to balance the scales."ĬJ Andriessen, Destructoid: "If I were to sum up Balan Wonderworld in a single word, that word would be antiquated. But when you take Balan Wonderworld as a whole, it sinks lower than the rudimentary platforming that barely props it up. ![]() Some of its barebones obstacle courses can occasionally produce hints of what I might call fun, and it's not much more than a total bore the rest of the time. Tom Marks, IGN: "When you're hopping around Balan Wonderworld's simultaneously imaginative yet bland stages, it doesn't necessarily feel like a total trainwreck. ![]() |
